Prayer & Reflection

Apostleship of Prayer

The Apostleship of Prayer belongs to the ordinary people of the Church. The way is Apostolic in that each and everyone of us is being encouraged to take part in spreading the Gospel message by urging a few friends to join in  praying, everyday, the Gospel of Our Lord.

Apostleship of Prayer for 2016 is in a booklet format covering six months (January – June) instead of a monthly leaflet.  The booklets are Available Now from rotary stands at both churches.

The new booklet format draws on the inspiration of Jesuit Fr Vince Hurley sj who nurtured the Apostleship of Prayer in Australia for 23 years (and for many years as a member of Toowong Jesuit Community). Fr Vince entered eternal life on 1st December 2015.

The Apostleship of Prayer offers a simple way to join Pope Francis and a worldwide group of 50 million who pray regularly for the Pope’s monthly intentions.

We are encouraged through our daily prayer to enter a deeper relationship with the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  It is the silent ‘heart speaking to heart’ that deepens our loving relationship with God.

Each day, we are united in our joys and struggles with the Father through Jesus and Mary, allowing us to journey more intimately when we meet Jesus in the sacrifice of the Mass.

I hope that you find this booklet strengthens your love of God and is a source of enduring joy in your life.

In Christ,
Fr David Braithwaite SJ,
Director, Apostleship of Prayer, Australia

The Pastoral Review
www.thepastoralreview.org/
A place for recommended reading: The Pastoral Review:-This is a very readable magazine produced in England which usually has articles of interest to the geneneral reader, as well as to priests which is why it was called "Priests and People". Its name has now been changed to The Pastoral Review. Read "Polarisation and Liturgy", an article from this magazine by Andrew Cameron-Mowat SJ. You will find it at        The Pastoral Review      (Note that you will have to search for this article once you get to the site.) And while you are there read "Celibacy as Oppression" by Donald Cozzens. You may then ask yourself "Why does the Church still insist on celibacy for priests?".

My commentaries are written to help people prepare themselves to listen more attentively to the gospel (and in some cases to preach to others more fruitfully on the gospel) when it is solemnly read in the liturgy of the Sunday following.
