What to expect coming to church
We are a Catholic faith community carrying out the mission of Christ in the suburbs of Toowong and Auchenflower. We aim to be welcoming and inclusive, giving hope through practical, personal kindness and affirming each person’s dignity, worth and destiny in Christ. We seek to know Jesus through prayer, scripture and liturgy. We express our faith through service and justice, working with and on behalf of those in need. We find God in all things and accept our stewardship of creation. We support and nurture our young people as they develop their faith.
Our Parish of St Ignatius is a place of belonging for many people – some with deep roots in Toowong, Auchenflower and other Brisbane suburbs; others who arrived as migrants, students or workers and have stayed. The parish is also blessed to include the community of St Ignatius Primary School Toowong. The children and their families contribute to many aspects of parish life including liturgies and the Parish Sacramental Program.
Weekend Masses are all celebrated with contemporary sacred music, led by professional musicians and accompanied by volunteer singers and choirs. Everyone is encouraged to join in since singing together gives joy to us and delight to God. Mass is also celebrated each weekday and allows for quiet reflection, personal prayer and connection with other people who come to seek healing and nourishment through their faith.
During the year, the parish offers programs to explore scripture in preparation for the major celebrations of Easter and Christmas. These programs are run in small groups to enable a range of ideas to be shared and discussed by participants. The Parish also has close links to Faber Centre of Ignatian Spirituality which offers a variety of retreats and days of reflection, year-round.
For those seeking connection with others there are social events and groups to join including St Vincent de Paul, Peace through Justice and Catholic Women’s League.
We hope you can join us!
